Red Leaf Education Facilitator Training Booklet
Welcome to Red Leaf Education
Red Leaf Education is a Canadian online high school offering the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) program to students in Grades 9 through 12. We are proud to partner with international schools and educators who share our commitment to quality education and student success. Our program is fully aligned with the curriculum expectations set by the Ontario Ministry of Education, ensuring our students receive a globally recognized secondary school diploma that opens doors to post-secondary institutions worldwide.
Our online learning model is flexible, student-centered, and built for modern learners. We emphasize independent, self-paced study complemented by regular feedback and support from certified Ontario teachers. Through this model, students can earn credits toward their OSSD from anywhere in the world.
Introduction to the Role of the Facilitator
Facilitators are essential partners in the delivery of Red Leaf Education programs. These are educators based in overseas schools who are trained and supported by Red Leaf Education to work closely with students enrolled in our online courses. While they are not responsible for delivering lessons, facilitators ensure that students stay on track and meet their academic goals.
Facilitators are not traditional classroom teachers in this context. Instead, they act as guides, motivators, and academic coaches—monitoring progress, providing encouragement, and creating a local support system to complement Red Leaf’s online instruction.
Key Responsibilities of Facilitators
- Monitor student progress: Ensure students stay on schedule throughout the 110-hour course structure.
- Support time management: Help students meet their deadlines and pace themselves.
- Identify academic gaps: Use teacher feedback to help students revisit concepts.
- Individual or group intervention: Support students one-on-one or in groups.
- Promote accountability: Conduct regular check-ins to keep students engaged.
- Coordinate with Red Leaf staff: Attend meetings, report concerns, and share updates.
- Use course access to support students: Review lessons and prepare in advance to better support learning.
Important Clarifications
- Facilitators do not grade or assess student work.
- Facilitators do not teach lessons—courses provide full instructional content.
- Facilitators may view marks and teacher feedback to guide improvement.
- Facilitators can preview all course content to better assist students.
Understanding the OSSD Program

Red Leaf Education ensures that all components of the OSSD are integrated into its programming, including support for PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) for eligible students.

- Be familiar with the structure of the courses and LMS
- Maintain records of student progress and concerns
- Provide regular updates to Red Leaf administrators
- Be available to students during designated school hours
